6 Months already!

We are so blessed to have our son! He is such a joy in our lives. He was a long awaited arrival. I just can not believe that he is in our family and that I am a mother. I still feel like someone needs to pinch me a wake me up from this dream.

Our bundle of joy is turning 6 months. Seriously where has the time gone. I remember people telling me to enjoy the time that it goes by so fast. All I heard was Bla, Bla, Bla. I didn't get it until now. He has so much energy and the rocking and cuddling are still there but not like when he was a little guy. He now wiggles like a worm to get out of your arms and his eyes are looking at everything all the time. Even when he is feeding he is looking around.

Saturday morning a good friend of ours let us know she had a cancellation and had time to take our family pictures. I actually was only going to get 6 month pictures of Palmer and have our family pictures done in Dec/Jan. But when she offered to do them this Saturday I jumped at the offer. Our friend Sarah is so sweet and talented to take our pictures for us. There are so many to choose so of course I could not just choose one.

Babies Don’t Keep

I saw this and had to post it. I just loved it!

Babies Don’t Keep
by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo

The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren’t his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

Hartland Orchard

We decided to start a new family tradition and head out to the country and pick apples and pumpkins in the fall. We were a little late this year for picking the apples, but not the pumpkins. So next year we will get out earlier in the season to pick apples.

Being new to the area I had done research on where to go. I sent an email out to my friends in Oakton and got a great response. This farm came up several times and so we decided to make this our spot this year for our little adventure. It was a perfect day. I bit on the windy side and so Palmer is not looking at the camera much today
.

This is my very first freshest caramel apple ever. I watched the guy put the apple on the stick and cover it in melted caramel and then add the nuts. WOW it was the best apple I have ever eaten. Definitely a yearly treat while at the orchard.

He even made their own apple cider. Wow this stuff is the bomb! We had to buy some to take home with us. We watched the guy make us a jug of that as well. Does it get any fresher than that?
Here is a precious little boy in the Pumpkin patch. He was too busy look at the dirt and messing with the twigs on the ground to look up.

v
It was a bit windy as well and the sun was shining. I guess the little guy needs some sunglasses.

It was a great day as a family to go and pick up a peck of apples, apple cider and our pumpkin to carve for Halloween. We even came home with some fresh honey. Can't wait to break open that jar with the honeycomb in it.

I love this time of year!

Fall Has Arrived at my Door

Fall, I think is my favorite season. There is something about the crisp morning air that just feels good to me. I enjoy feeling the cool breeze in the afternoons and watching for the first leaf to change color. Then as the weeks progress the one leaf turns to many leaves and the trees fill with vibrant colors. It is fun to say goodbye to flip flops and hello to knee high boots. Goodbye to the single t-shirt and hello to layers. It is time to pull out the scarfs that seem to add to a outfit the final touch as you head out the door. It is time to say goodbye to the blistering heat and welcome the crisp cold air.

Fall has arrived at my door. Time to pull out the wreaths and pumpkins, change out the pots on my porch and welcome the fall additions in my home.

Our Day Adventure on the Potomac

I just love Groupon, they have some fantastic deals on there. So one of these great deals I purchase earlier this year and was hoping to use it with our visitors over the summer. It didn't work out and so Adam and I had 2 tickets to take a cruise on the "Spirit of Mount Vernon"
We had to be at Pier 4 and board the boat by 815am.

It was a beautiful fall day. We could not have asked for better weather to do this trip. The boat ride was a hour and half each way.

Here we are a family of "3"! Palmer is 5 months old and taking his first boat ride. I am so proud of him. He was so much fun and a real treat to take on the day adventure.
The sky was blue and the sun was shining. It was a crisp morning to be out and on the water. We saw so may boats out and fisherman catching fish. I love how people love to wave back and forth as the boats go by. We even saw a guy catch a huge fish and he did a happy dance for us.

We arrive at the Warf. and the second half of our adventure begins.

We walked up the a steep cobblestone hill and when we reached the top we found the grave of our first President of the United States. There was a tour going on and so we stayed to listen and then got to put our hand over our heart and say the pledge of allegiance.

On our way to the house we stopped and saw all the barns, where he cared for his horses, carriages. We really liked the riding chair and the sleigh behind

.

The view from the house was gorgeous with the Potomac River behind us.

It is so nice when someone stops and offers to take a picture of our family.
So here we are once again a family of "3"

Here is Adam and Palmer standing in line for the tour of the house.

The whole day was just fun in the sun. I thought 3 hours there was going to be long, but we were rushing to see everything. We still have not seen everything. The indoor museum was amazing and the history that I learned about our dear President George Washington and his wife Martha.
